Cool You retro-fitted fully internal air conditioning in apartments within the Strata Building. This case study is about the installation of internal DC inverter water-cooled condensers to air-conditioned modern apartments within the Strata Building.
These apartments are in one of London’s iconic buildings, the Strata SE1. The building is located in the Elephant and Castles regeneration area and is the tallest residential building in the city. While the apartment building is highly energy efficient and sets standards for sustainable living, it has floor-to-ceiling windows and a southern aspect, causing the apartments to be warm even during colder winters.
The owner desired air conditioning to address this issue but was not permitted to install a traditional external condenser box or penetrate the outside due to building restrictions. Two water-cooled internal condensers were installed in a storage cupboard next to the washing machine to solve this. These condensers served as energy-efficient and quiet DC inverter high-wall units in each apartment’s open-plan kitchen/living room and master bedroom.
Our technical team used the ceiling voids to connect and conceal the refrigerant pipework between the condensers and the room units. The installation was completed in less than two days without causing disruption to the apartment’s existing decor. Notably, no planning permission was required for these air conditioning systems.
For this project, we installed:
One 3.5kw and one 5.3kw DC Inverter water cooled condensers
Serving:
Open Plan Kitchen / Living Room: 5.3kw (18,000 Btu) DC Inverter cooling only high wall unit.
Master Bedroom: 3.5kw (12,000 Btu) DC Inverter cooling only high wall unit
