Installing an office air conditioning system in a 17th-century listed building where external condenser boxes could not be used.
When the Sequel Group wanted an office air conditioning system in a 17th-century listed building, they had to find a solution for use in their grade 2 listed office building. The publishing company is based within one of 40 designated conservation areas within the Borough of Islington.
Cool You UK successfully air condition the offices of the Sequel Group in Islington, London, in their listed building
Cool You UK was able to offer a practical solution that met their listed building criteria. Namely, no outside condenser boxes. Like many similar commercial and domestic properties in London where we have installed our air conditioning systems, our water-cooled air conditioning units were ideal. This is because everything is contained within the building and does not require any holes in external walls.
Wall Mounted Room Units
For the first phase of this project, we air-conditioned the two upper-floor open-plan offices in the building. On the top floor, we installed two .8kw wall-mounted room units, and in the design studio, on the floor below, one 7kw wall-mounted room unit.
Water Cooled Internal Condenser Unit With No Outside Box
Fortunately, this building had an easily accessible loft that allowed us to house the three water condenser units out of sight. This allowed our team to design a suitable installation solution that allowed easy access for future maintenance, and our electricians and plumbers were able to bring the necessary services to this area with minimal disruption to the client.
Overall, the installation of the first phase took five days. The client’s staff and their production were not disrupted during the work. The Sequel Group Managing and Financial Directors made a specific point after completing the project. “Considering what Cool You were doing within our grade 2 listed building, with its thick walls, there was little noise or mess whilst they were with us. The quality of work was excellent, and we were able to get on with our day-to-day activities with little or no interruption. Thank you for an excellent job.”
We completed the second phase, air conditioning on the ground floor and basement, later in the year.
For this project, we installed:
Top Floor: 4 x .8kw wall-mounted room units
Design Studio: 1 x 7kw wall-mounted room unit
1 x 7kw water condensing unit
2 x 3.85kw water condensing units
