The Installation Of Air Conditioning In A Grade II, Listed Commercial Building With No External Condenser
Cool You UK has recently completed the installation of water-cooled air conditioning in a grade II, listed commercial building. This was within the London showroom of fashion designer Catherine Deane.
Based on the upper floors of the iconic Grade II Listed Victorian riverside warehouse building, Metropolitan Wharf. The showroom was unsuitable for a conventional air conditioning system. This was because of the restrictions brought about by its listed building status.
With listed buildings, the only air conditioning solution available is a water-cooled air conditioning system. Everything is contained within the building. There is no need for an outside condenser box or holes drilling through the building’s external walls.
A Ducted Water Cooled Air Conditioning Solution – The Only Way To Air Condition This Grade II Listed Office / Showroom
Within Catherine Deane’s London offices, the showroom is an internal glass-walled room with a changing room that has minimal ventilation. Cool You was approached by the client, who was getting frustrated in their search for an air conditioning solution for this area that would economically cool the showroom during the summer and heat it in the winter (as a listed building, all traditional air conditioning solutions were not permitted). Not only was the showroom within the centre of the building and therefore did not have external windows, the client also requested that the equipment was hidden away as much as possible.
During the site survey, the Cool You team quickly established that the ideal solution was a 3.8kw Ducted Internal Water-Cooled Air Conditioning system. The condenser box was installed in the kitchen area about 6 meters from the showroom. This had the benefit of having an out-of-sight power and water supply. The ducted pipework was hidden in the ceiling void, and the ventilation ducts were positioned above the changing room door.
Cool You UK worked closely with the client’s interior contractors and delivered a solution that met all the client’s specifications. Discussing the project, Savva commented, “When the client approached us, it is evident that numerous air conditioning companies had passed them from pillar to post. It soon became apparent that our water-cooled air conditioning solution was the only way the client would achieve what they wanted. Although it was quite a tricky installation, by using the ducted system, we delivered an elegant solution to our client’s needs.
Catherine Deane stated from the client’s view, “It’s cool; we are happy; thank you!” A colleague, Lyzz, a Bride Consultant, discussed the benefits of their new water-cooled air conditioning system: “ I have been in appointments this morning, and it is making a huge difference to the comfort of both myself and the brides!”
For this project, we installed
Showroom and Changing Room:
1 x ducted air conditioning unit
1 x 3.85kw water condensing unit
