This is a case study of the installation of air conditioning in a hairdressing salon on Elizabeth Street, Chelsea. Cool You recently installed a water-cooled air conditioning system within Blo By Realhair, a salon within one of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea conservation areas.

Due to planning restrictions, the new salon, being in a conservation area, was unsuitable for a conventional air conditioning system. These restrictions prevented the owners from installing an outside condenser box at the front or back of the building.

Many high street shops, like our clients, have their back against another shop, with the only external wall being the shop frontage. A water-cooled system is the only available air conditioning solution for retail premises like our clients. This system, which is contained within the building and does not require an outside condenser box or any holes drilled through the building’s external walls, is the most suitable for conservation areas. It also offers energy efficiency and quiet operation, making it a preferred choice for such environments.

Our water-cooled air conditioning unit was the only way to air-condition this salon, which was situated in a conservation area.

Like many hairdressing salons, Blo By Realhair has a large glass shopfront and a lot of equipment that generates heat, making the environment uncomfortable for customers and staff.

The owner of Blo By Realhair, frustrated in their search for an air conditioning solution that would be allowed by the planning authorities, approached Cool You. Traditional air conditioning solutions were not permitted in a building within a conservation area, but we could provide a solution with our unique expertise.

During the site survey, the Cool You team meticulously assessed the salon’s layout, the heat-generating equipment, and the available space for installation. After careful consideration, they determined the ideal solution was a 7kw Water-Cooled Air Conditioning system with a High-Wall unit. The condenser box was strategically installed in the basement, benefiting from an out-of-sight power and water supply. The pipework was discreetly hidden during the shopfitting process, and the wall-mounted unit was installed within the salon area on the ground floor, ensuring maximum comfort for both customers and staff.
